Anecdotal stories, history, the areas mineral specimens, smelter sites, caves, photos and maps capture life in the Chillagoe- Hodgkinson area in its hey day and show the present remains and legacy.

At 9.25 am on Monday 19th September,1921 there was an horrific explosion at the Mount Mulligan mine which killed all 75 men in it. The explosion was heard 60 kilometers away at Moult Molloy but, worst of all by the children lining up for school and the wives at home, instantly knowing that their fathers and husbands were dead.................
Father and son died together that day and left 56 orphans...
Even today to visit that graveyard and read the headstones is enough to make the devil weep.
